# GRUNT install on OSX {#osx-grunt}

> You may not need this at all, if you are using [runTests.sh](https://docs.typo3.org/permalink/t3contribute:runtests-sh)
> with dockerized environment for building all assets.

First off, make sure you installed **npm** like described [here](https://docs.typo3.org/permalink/t3contribute:osx-npm).

In your Terminal app navigate to the folder that you cloned the TYPO3 source
into. Switch into the `Build` folder and run

```bash
npm install
```

This will install Grunt as well a s couple of Task plugins we use in the TYPO3 core.
To make sure grunt is running, run

```bash
grunt css
```

This will run all registered tasks defined in the TYPO3 core.
