# LOG - Logging configuration {#typo3confvars-log}

The array `$GLOBALS['TYPO3_CONF_VARS']['LOG']` defines how TYPO3 handles
logging—what gets logged, how it is formatted, and where it is written.

Depending on your role, there are two relevant guides:

- For **developers** implementing logging in extensions or custom services,
    see [The logging framework (developer guide)](https://docs.typo3.org/permalink/t3coreapi:logging@12.4) chapter.
- For **system administrators** and **DevOps** configuring logging in
    production environments, see [Logging considerations during production](https://docs.typo3.org/permalink/t3coreapi:production-logging@12.4).

The default logging configuration shipped with TYPO3 can be found in:
[EXT:core/Configuration/DefaultConfiguration.php (GitHub)](https://github.com/typo3/typo3/blob/12.4/typo3/sysext/core/Configuration/DefaultConfiguration.php)
