# Format.htmlentitiesDecode ViewHelper `<f:format.htmlentitiesDecode>` {#typo3-fluid-format-htmlentitiesdecode}

ViewHelper to apply `html_entity_decode()` to a value, transforming HTML entity representations back into HTML special characters (like `&quot;` to `"`).

**packages/my_extension/Resources/Private/Templates/Content/Text.fluid.html**

```html
<f:format.htmlentitiesDecode>{text}</f:format.htmlentitiesDecode>
```

Text containing the following escaped signs: `&amp;` `&quot;` `&#039;` `&lt;` `&gt;`, will be processed by `html_entity_decode()`.
These will result in: `&` `"` `'` `<` `>`.

### Inline notation {#typo3-fluid-format-htmlentitiesdecode-inline-notation}

**packages/my_extension/Resources/Private/Templates/Content/Text.fluid.html**

```html
{text -> f:format.htmlentitiesDecode(encoding: 'ISO-8859-1')}
```

Text containing the following escaped signs: `&amp;` `&quot;` `&#039;` `&lt;` `&gt;`, will be processed by `html_entity_decode()`.
These will result in: `&` `"` `'` `<` `>`.

But encoded as ISO-8859-1.

## Arguments of the `<f:format.htmlentitiesDecode>` ViewHelper {#typo3-fluid-format-htmlentitiesdecode-arguments}

-   **encoding**

    -   *Type:* string

    Define the encoding used when converting characters (Default: UTF-8).

-   **keepQuotes**

    -   *Type:* bool
    -   *Default:* false

    If TRUE, single and double quotes won't be replaced (sets ENT_NOQUOTES flag).

-   **value**

    -   *Type:* string

    string to format
