# Configuration {#configuration}

The extension can be configured via Site Settings and page properties.

## Site Settings {#configuration-site-settings}

After adding the Site Set to your site configuration (see [Activate the Site Set](https://docs.typo3.org/permalink/rtfirst/llms-txt:installation-site-set@main)),
you can configure the extension in **Site Management > Settings**.

-   **llmsTxt.intro**

    -   *type:* text
    -   *Default:* (empty)

    Website description shown in the intro section of the llms.txt file.
    This text appears as a blockquote below the site title and helps AI
    crawlers understand the purpose of your website.

    It is used for the llms.txt of the default language. The field
    [llms.txt Intro](https://docs.typo3.org/permalink/rtfirst/llms-txt:confval-language-intro@main) of a language takes
    precedence and is the only intro for the other languages.

    Example:

    ```
    Your expert for tires, wheels, and automotive services since 1985.
    ```

-   **llmsTxt.excludePages**

    -   *type:* string
    -   *Default:* (empty)

    Comma-separated list of page UIDs to exclude from the llms.txt index.
    Use this for pages that should not appear in the LLM index, such as
    imprint, privacy policy, or internal pages.

    Example:

    ```
    42,56,123
    ```

-   **llmsTxt.includeHidden**

    -   *type:* boolean
    -   *Default:* false

    If enabled, hidden pages are also included in the llms.txt generation.
    This can be useful for staging environments or preview purposes.

-   **llmsTxt.enableMarkdown**

    -   *type:* boolean
    -   *Default:* true

    If disabled, the `.md` Markdown variant is no longer served for any
    page on this site: `.md` URLs are left untouched and resolve as a
    normal 404 instead of being rewritten, and llms.txt no longer contains the
    Markdown hints (including the authentication hints for
    `llmsTxt.apiKey`) or per-page Markdown links.

-   **llmsTxt.apiKey**

    -   *type:* string
    -   *Default:* (empty)

    API key for protected access to `/llms.txt` and `.md` endpoints.
    If set, requests without a valid API key will receive a 401 Unauthorized
    response. Leave empty for public access.

    See [API Protection](https://docs.typo3.org/permalink/rtfirst/llms-txt:api-protection@main) for details on how to use API key protection.

## Site Languages {#configuration-site-languages}

Every enabled language of a site has its own llms.txt below its base, see
[Multi-Language Access](https://docs.typo3.org/permalink/rtfirst/llms-txt:usage-multi-language@main). In **Site Management > Sites**, each language
has an additional field:

-   **llms.txt Intro**

    -   *type:* text
    -   *Default:* (empty)
    -   *Key:* `llmsTxtIntro` (per language in `config/sites/<site>/config.yaml`)

    Website description shown in the intro section of the llms.txt of this
    language. It takes precedence over [llmsTxt.intro](https://docs.typo3.org/permalink/rtfirst/llms-txt:confval-intro@main),
    which is the fallback for the default language only. Other languages
    without this field have no intro.

    Example:

    ```
    languages:
      -
        languageId: 1
        title: English
        base: /en/
        llmsTxtIntro: 'Your expert for tires, wheels, and automotive services since 1985.'
    ```

## Page Properties {#configuration-page-properties}

Each page has an **LLM** tab in the page properties with the following fields:

-   **Exclude from llms.txt**

    -   *type:* checkbox
    -   *Default:* false

    If enabled, this page will not appear in the llms.txt index. The page
    is also excluded from the Markdown output.

-   **LLM Priority**

    -   *type:* number (slider)
    -   *Default:*
    -   *Range:* 0-100

    Higher values (0-100) cause the page to appear earlier in the llms.txt
    page list, before the other pages with the same parent page. The list
    follows the page tree, so a page never leaves its branch. Pages with the
    same priority keep the order of the page tree. Use this to highlight
    important pages for AI crawlers.

    The priority is the same in every language: translations use the
    priority of the default language page, and the field is not shown in
    translations.

    **Recommendations:**

    - **80-100**: Main landing pages, key services
    -   **50-70**: Important content pages
    -   **20-40**: Secondary pages
    -   **0-10**: Low-priority pages

-   **LLM Description**

    -   *type:* textarea
    -   *Default:* (empty)
    -   *Max length:* 500 characters

    Custom description for this page in the llms.txt index. If empty,
    the page's SEO meta description (from the SEO tab) is used as fallback.

    This description helps AI crawlers understand what the page is about.

-   **LLM Summary**

    -   *type:* textarea
    -   *Default:* (empty)
    -   *Max length:* 2000 characters

    Additional summary text, added to the notes of the page in the llms.txt
    index.
    Use this for longer explanations that don't fit in the description.

-   **LLM Keywords**

    -   *type:* text input
    -   *Default:* (empty)
    -   *Max length:* 255 characters

    Comma-separated keywords/topics for this page. These appear in the
    llms.txt index and help AI crawlers categorize the page content.

    Example:

    ```
    tires, wheels, alignment, services
    ```

## robots.txt Configuration {#configuration-robots-txt}

To allow AI crawlers to discover and access your llms.txt file, add these
lines to your `public/robots.txt`:

```text
# Allow AI crawlers to access llms.txt
User-agent: GPTBot
Allow: /llms.txt
User-agent: Claude-Web
Allow: /llms.txt
User-agent: Anthropic-AI
Allow: /llms.txt
User-agent: Google-Extended
Allow: /llms.txt
```

Add the llms.txt of further languages as well, e.g. `Allow: /en/llms.txt`.

> [!NOTE]
> The extension shows a notification in the TYPO3 Backend if your robots.txt
> does not contain a reference to llms.txt.

## HTML Header Link {#configuration-header-link}

The extension automatically adds a `<link>` tag to all HTML pages to help
AI crawlers discover the llms.txt file:

```html
<link rel="alternate" type="text/plain" href="/llms.txt" title="LLM Content Guide">
```

The link points to the llms.txt of the page language, e.g. `/en/llms.txt`
on English pages.

> [!NOTE]
> When API key protection is enabled, this header link is automatically
> hidden to prevent unauthorized crawlers from discovering the endpoint.
