Configuration in Extension Manager¶
In TYPO3 version 4.5 backend news items are stored in records and automatically shown in the backend. Furthermore a central scheduler is available to perform tasks on certain times. These features are used to reduce the system load even more.
- Folder where messages will be store... [sysNewsPid]Folder where messages will be stored.Backend login news items are stored as proper records in the database. To let the system distinguish between RSS feed items and other messages the RSS feed items can be associated with a folder in the pagetree. The ID number of this folder must be set in this field
- RSS Feed [rssFeed]The URL of the RSS FeedEnter the full URL of the RSS feed, e.g. http://news.typo3.org/rss.xml
- Title [title]The title of the news listThis text will be shown in the title bar above the news items.
- Max Items [maxItems]The maximum number of items which are displayedRSS feeds often contain a large number of items. Only the latest items are shown.
- Language [language]Supported are "en", "de" and "nl"Each news item has a link to the full article. The link text is displayed in the language which is set here.
Configuring the scheduler¶
Add a task “BE login news task” :
Set the Frequency to either the number of seconds between refreshing the list, or use a cron type syntax (0 2 * * * means each day at 2 am); see tooltips for more information.
Do not activate the option Allow Parallel Execution .
If the scheduler is working correctly (which is not in the scope of this manual) the list of news items will be refreshed periodically.
To fill the news items initially you can mark the checkbox in the list of Scheduled tasks and click on the Execute selected tasks button.
Known problems¶

Translations¶
