Users manual

Requirements

  • Firefox browser
  • FireBug add-on
  • FirePHP >= 0.5.0 add-on.
  • TYPO3 4.3 or higher

Installation

  • Install latest stable Firefox Browser if you don't have one yet. (It's free)
  • Install latest stable FireBug add-on for Firefox
  • Install latest stable FirePHP add-on for Firefox, at least version 0.5.0 or higher.
  • Go to TYPO3 extension manager and import and install the extension fire_devlog.

Extension configuration

  • After installing the extension, the extension manager asks you that “ This extension provides additional configuration options which become available once it is installed. ”. Now click on the Make updates button. You will be prompted for the configuration:
  • img-4 Activate the Enable Logging checkbox. This step is mandatory to use the extension! Please notice that as soon as you enable logging, the devlog data will be world readable public. Make sure that you restrict access to the logged data by using the other two settings.
  • When the Limit access to logged in BE users checkbox is activated, only Be users which are logged into the backend get access to the logging data. It is highly recommended to use this setting.
  • You can also limit access to a certain range of IP addresses by adding them to Limit access to an IP Range field. For example use 192.168.217.* to limit access to hosts with IP addresses within 192.168.217.1 and 192.168.217.255

FireBug and FirePHP configuration

  • Open a page in the TYPO3 Frontend
  • Enable FireBug by clicking on the bug icon in the right lower corner of your browser:

  • img-7 That's it. As soon as you request a page which fires a devlog event, it will appear in the FireBug console

Upgrading fire_devlog from versions <= 1.1.0

In versions higher than 1.1.0 a new option was introduced to explicitly enable logging. This option aims to protect users from accidentally revealing their logging data to the public. Here's what you should do after upgrading the extension in the extension manager:

  • Click on the extension in the extension manager to go to the extension settings.
  • Activate the Enable logging checkbox.
  • Check if the Limitation settings fit your privacy needs.

Known problems

  • Does not work with FirePHP below 0.5.0.
  • Please have a look at the issue tracker of the fire_devlog project on TYPO3 forge.

To-Do list

Please have a look at the fire_devlog project on TYPO3 forge.
